The Final Advance

The final decisive advance by the Allies commenced. By 21st September the Bulgars were in full retreat through the Kosturino Pass.

Our 3rd Battalion, though in the front line on the River Vardar from 9th July to September, did not take part in the last advance. Their fighting strength had been reduced to 130 other ranks by malaria and influenza. Reinforcements were received and the Battalion sailed from Salonika to Constantinople, where they landed on the night of 2nd / 3rd February, 1919.

Lieutenant-Colonel Borton's Victoria Cross

In November, 1917, Lieutenant-Colonel A. D. Borton won the Victoria Cross when leading his battalion of the London Regiment in the Palestine campaign.
