The Other Battalions 1797-1815

The 2nd Battalion, in January, 1809, after Corunna, had returned to the Channel Islands and thence to the West Indies. The 1st Battalion, which had always been quartered in America, was brought to England with the 4th Battalion in 1810, and shortly afterwards sent to the Cape of Good Hope, and the 4th Battalion to Dominica.

The 6th Battalion, raised in 1799 with one rifle company, remained in the West Indies.

Two additional battalions, the 7th and 8th, also dressed in green, were raised in 1813 at Gibraltar and Lisbon. By 1815 this colour had been adopted for the whole Regiment, which was then designated the 60th Rifles.

Soon after the conclusion of the war with France the Regiment was reduced to two battalions; the 2nd and 3rd became the 1st and 2nd, and the others were disbanded.

All battalions being overseas in 1815, the Regiment was not in the Waterloo campaign.
